Three University of Maryland Medical System Hospitals Ranked Among Top Five In Maryland

Three University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) hospitals the University of Maryland Medical Center (Downtown Campus), UM St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson (Baltimore County) and UM Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie (Anne Arundel County) rank among the top five hospitals in the Baltimore region and the state, according to U.S. News & World Report's 2024 Best Hospitals, released today.

“Having three of our hospitals ranked so highly is indicative of the excellent academic-focused medical care available across our System,” said Mohan Suntha, MD, MBA, President and Chief Executive Officer of UMMS. “Our team members work hard every day to deliver compassionate, high-quality patient and family-centered care. This recognition speaks to the relentless commitment of our workforce to the health and well-being of communities we serve in Maryland and beyond."

The U.S. News rankings are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or for common elective procedures.

  • UMMC, the System's flagship academic hospital located in Baltimore City, is again ranked as the #2 hospital both in the state of Maryland and Baltimore Metro area. UMMC also ranked #43 nationally for the Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) and #47 for Cancer specialties. In addition, UMMC ranked High Performing in 15 Common Procedures.

  • UM SJMC is ranked #3 in the state and Baltimore Metro for the seventh consecutive year. The hospital also ranked High Performing in 13 Common Procedures.

  • UM BWMC is ranked #5 in Baltimore Metro and tied for #5 ranking in the state, and ranked High Performing in 8 Common Procedures.
